Short answer: wash silicone nipple covers with warm water and mild soap after every wear, air dry them sticky side up, and store them on the clear backing. Done that way, Ciralu Nipple Covers last up to 100 wears. Skip it and lint kills the adhesive in a week.
Why the adhesive stops working
Silicone covers are tacky, not glued. Anything that sits on the tacky surface, lint, skin oil, lotion, dust, blocks contact with your skin. Washing removes it and the tack comes back. Heat and sunlight, on the other hand, break the silicone down for good, so never leave them on a car dashboard or in a hot bathroom.
The 60-second wash
- Rinse under warm, not hot, water.
- Put a drop of mild soap on the sticky side and rub gently with your fingertips in circles.
- Rinse until it no longer feels slippery.
- Shake off the water and lay them sticky side up on a clean surface to air dry. No towel on the adhesive; it leaves fibers.
Storage
Once dry, press each cover back onto its clear backing sheet and put both in the box. The backing keeps dust off the adhesive and keeps the covers flat. Traveling? Keep them in the box, not loose in a makeup bag.
What to avoid
- Alcohol, makeup remover or wipes on the adhesive.
- Towels, tissues or paper on the sticky side.
- Applying over lotion or oil, which transfers to the cover.
- Heat: dryers, radiators, sun.
When to replace
When a freshly washed, fully dry cover no longer grips clean skin, it is done. For most people that is around 100 wears. Order a new pair before the last one gives out; every Ciralu order ships free with a clothing tape included.
